Learn to Play Pickleball! - Evening Class Register View Cart

Join us for this Pickleball class geared to the beginner, otherwise known as Novice I. These classes are for those that are brand new to Pickleball or have played a little and want to learn more. We will run three separate sessions of this class: August 26th, September 9th, and September 23 from 6pm-8pm. The two hour class will include approximately 1 1/2 hour of instruction and a 1/2 hour of games to practice skills learned. This class is open to youth 15+ and adults. This class will be taught by Julie Graham and Mark Anttila, both PPR Certified Instructors. A minimum number of 4 participants is needed to run each session. All participants must register at Boylstonparks.org.

This class is an intensive and focused learning experience designed to quickly introduce new players to the game of Pickleball
. Here are some key aspects typically covered in such crash courses:
  1. Rules and Scoring: Beginners learn the basic rules of Pickleball, including how to serve, the two-bounce rule, and scoring. Understanding these fundamental rules is essential for playing the game effectively.
  2. Equipment Overview: Participants get acquainted with the necessary equipment, such as paddles, balls, and court shoes. Knowing how to choose the right gear ensures a better playing experience.
  3. Court Basics: Crash courses cover court dimensions, lines, and the net setup. Beginners learn where to stand during play and how to move around the court strategically.
  4. Non-Volley Zone (NVZ): The NVZ, also known as the kitchen, is a critical area near the net. Beginners learn when they can step into the NVZ and when to avoid hitting the ball in the air from this zone.
  5. Basic Shots and Techniques: Participants practice essential shots, including serves, volleys, and ground strokes. Proper technique is emphasized to build a solid foundation.
  6. Strategy: Crash courses introduce basic strategies, such as positioning, court rotation, and shot selection. Players learn how to work as a team and anticipate opponents’ moves.
  7. Game Play Confidence: By the end of the class, beginners should feel comfortable enough to participate in friendly games with other players or join beginner-level open play sessions.
Remember that these classes are designed to provide a condensed overview, so participants can quickly start enjoying Pickleball because Pickleball Rocks!
