Make a scarecrow at home (or your place of business), install it on the Common on Saturday or Sunday, October 18th or 19th. It will be on display for all to see until Halloween! Register by Oct. 19th.
We will charge a registration fee of $10.00 and will provide provide prizes for the winners if more than 5 registrations are received. Challenge your friends, neighbors, or other organizations! Last years entries were fantastic!
Prizes will be awarded to the Best 'Classic' Scarecrow and Most Original. If you wish to enter, but the fee proposes a hardship for you, please contact our office.
Here are the details:
1. Create your scarecrow at home (or your place of business).
2. Bring it to the common on Saturday or Sunday, October 17th or 18th. Choose a spot along the front of the Common (see picture below for placement area), and install it yourself - no poles or materials will be provided.
3. On the BACK of your scarecrow, include your last name or the name of your organization, club, etc. so we can match it with your Boylstonparks.org account. This allows us to contact you if you win! You agree to allow us to post pictures of your scarecrow on social media for our voting contest (we will not include your name or business name for this purpose)..
4. Your entry must be sturdy enough to withstand the elements, as it will be on the common for an extended period of time.
5. Please no perishable items, like gourds, pumpkins, etc.
6. No electricity is available.
7. Scarecrows MAY NOT BE attached to the gazebo, memorial trees, lamp posts, or telephone poles.
8. They must remain on the common through October 31st, then promptly removed on November 1st.
9. Any scarecrows remaining on the common after November 1st will be removed by the Parks and Recreation Department and discarded at the owner's expense.
10. The Boylston Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to refuse any entry they deem inappropriate or unacceptable.
11. The Boylston Parks and Recreation Department and the Town of Boylston is not responsible for any damage or theft of the scarecrows or items displayed with them.
12. Placement information: This picture shows the area across from the library parking lot, where the tree stumps are on the Common. This strip—a foot or two behind the stumps, from the bush to the tip of the common, would be a perfect location for the scarecrows!
