Babysitter Preparation Class including CPR Certification Register View Cart

The Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to host a 'Babysitter Preparation Class including CPR Certification' with Fiske's Emergency Medical Training on January 11th from 10:00am-3:00pm at the Town House located at 599 Main Street, Boylston (location may change to the Parks & Recreation Office at 221 Main Street). The end time of class is an estimate of how long it will take to cover all the materials.

The course is designed to help beginning babysitters learn the skills and tips for caring for kids of all ages. Safety for both the kids and the babysitter will be discussed, as well as the basics in diapering, feeding, burping, and how to deal with some behavior issues that may arise. Basic first aid will be reviewed, as well as a complete CPR/choking course from the American Heart Association*. Games, songs, and activities to help entertain the children will be reviewed, as well as how to put together a 'Sitter’s Busy Bag' that can be brought to  babysitting jobs. Hands on demonstrations will be given, with plenty of time to practice each skill demonstrated.

This class is designed for youth 13+ interested in becoming a fun, but safe babysitter. Youth as young as 10 are welcome to register and attend, but please know that they may have difficulty obtaining CPR certification. To become CPR certified, attendees will need the strength to perform and sustain high quality chest compressions on an adult (computerized) mannequin for a period of time. Please be aware of this when registering. If any attendees cannot perform high quality chest compressions to pass the CPR portion, they will receive a card stating they learned the skills but will not receive a certification card.

The class size is limited to 12 students. The minimum enrollment is 10 students. Students may bring a tree-nut free lunch or snacks from home, along with a water bottle. Comfortable clothing and footwear is recommended. Register by January 4th.

As with all programs, the Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment or other reasons beyond our control.

*To be certified by the American Heart Association, you will need to demonstrate that you can perform high quality chest compression on an adult mannequin. If you cannot perform high quality chest compressions, you will receive a card stating you learned the skills but not a certification card.
