Soccer Store!
In anticipation of the upcoming Youth Spring Soccer season, we are currently collecting gently-used and clean youth soccer cleats, shin pads, and goalie gloves. We will also accept soccer socks in extremely good condition, as well as balls for practice. We will be setting up a 'store' for soccer parents to 'shop' for their child's needs.
Please bag up items that your child has outgrown fitting the description above, include a paper in the bag with an adult's first and last name, phone number, and best email (please write legibly). Place your bag into one of the bins at the Boylston Parks & Recreation Office or outside the Hillside Gym - both at 221 Main Street. Donations to the 'store' will be accepted now through March 12.
The Parks & Recreation Department will sort through all the items and make an inventory list. Any unacceptable items will be discarded appropriately during the sorting process. Everyone that donates will be placed on a 'pre-sale' list and receive an invite to shop the
'store' before it officially opens to the public. You do not need to make a donation to 'shop' the 'store's' regular hours. Though we're calling it a 'store', there will be no charge for the items. If you're looking for cleats, we suggest bringing your soccer player to be sure they fit.
Please note that all drop-offs to the bins are considered donations. Parks & Recreation cannot guarantee that if you made a donation, you will find something you need for your own child. Once they are dropped off to a bin, they are considered property of the Parks & Recreation Department to either offer as part of the 'store', discard in an appropriate manner, or donate.
This event is being offered as a service to families as a way to distribute gently used equipment to others that can use it at no cost. We know that sports equipment can be expensive and kids outgrow things so quickly, by hosting this event we hope to help families offset some costs while also keeping items out of the landfill.
If you are experiencing a financial hardship, please contact the office before the 'pre-sale' and we will do our best to help you get what your child needs.
We ask that 'shoppers' take only what they need. In good faith to those that donated and in fairness to all, we prohibit the taking of items for resale. We do hope that everyone will abide by this rule.
This is the first time we are trying this. If it goes well, we hope to host this again and perhaps expand to include other sports! Items that aren't taken when 'shopping' ends, but are in really good condition may be held over for next year (or possibly the Fall). Other items may be donated appropriately after the 'store' closes.
The 'pre-sale' is currently scheduled for March 16 from 6pm-8pm and March 21 from 9am-10am. The regular 'store' is currently scheduled to be open on March 21 from 10am-12pm - all at the Boylston Parks & Recreation Office. This of course, is dependent on the number of donations we receive. The amount of inventory available is dependent on the number of donations received. We reserve the right to alter the schedule or even cancel the event if not enough inventory is available to sustain this event.
If we do not get enough to support two pre-sales and a public sale, we will adjust things and let you know.
We thank you in advance for your contributions and support! Your participation is what will make this event successful.
